Friends of Bantry General Hospital Ltd. Bantry, West Cork

Friends of Bantry General Hospital was founded in 2004 primarily to raise funds for a CT scanner for the hospital.

Since then the Friends have raised money for many different projects and equipment for the hospital, eg Day Room in St Joseph’s Continuing Care Ward, Equipment to upgrade the Endoscopy Suite, Echo Cardiogram (ultrasound) etc.

The committee members of the Friends are all local to the area and give of their time voluntarily. The Friends would like to assure people of the continuation of the hospital as an Acute Hospital. The new re-organisation, whilst it will result in the closing of 24 hour casualty cover, will provide a much higher standard of service for the 12 hours (8 to 8 daytime) it is open daily (365 days per year).  You can be assured of a Registrar specialising in emergency medicine, overseeing your visit.

From July all cardiac, stroke and patients with chest complaints, will continue to be seen 24 hour per day. The scans can be read immediately by a consultant in Cork, if necessary.

From July if you have an accident and sustain a possible broken bone or cut requiring suturing, during night hours, you can either see Southdoc or attend Cork University Hospital Accident and Emergency. Medical emergencies will be accepted in Bantry 24 hours per day.

The Friends of Bantry General Hospital continue to raise funds which are used to purchase state of the art equipment, to enhance and develop services.

If you would like to make a donation towards our fundraising, please make your cheques payable to “The Friends of Bantry General Hospital” and send them to Margaret Cronin c/o Bantry General Hospital, Bantry.

If you have any queries, please contact the hospital 027 50133 and they will pass the message on. We warmly welcome donations given in lieu of flowers or in memory of loved ones. In time we will have the facility for you to donate on line.
