Chairman's Address

The official launch of Friends of Bantry General Hospital Ltd took place on 19th May 2004.
As you may know our immediate objective is to raise enough money to purchase a CT Scanner for Bantry General Hospital in an effort to improve the level of care available locally within the West Cork, South Kerry area.

To date through the generosity of the community we have raised 20,053 Euro, this represents approx 4% of our target of 500,000 Euro. (Updated figures on home page) We are thankful and grateful to everyone who has contributed thus far and whilst we have a long way to go we are confident that the good will and enthusiasm exists within the community to achieve this ambitious target.

Since the launch we have concentrated our efforts in the immediate Bantry area, but the hospital services a wide area of West Cork and South Kerry stretching from Clonakilty, to Skibbereen, Schull, Castletownbere, Kenmare, Sneem to Dunmanway and Macroom. The provision of a CT Scanner would greatly benefit this wider community and will prove to be an invaluable community asset. With this in mind we urge anyone in the wider area to consider how they could help in this community effort, either through donations or organising fundraising events. Some successful examples follow:

On Thursday 19th August The Bantry Active Retirement Group launched a 16 month calendar entitled 'A Sense of Place'

It is a collection of photographs for the locality, taken by the photographic class under the tutelage of Ms Eileen O'Leary.

The calendar is on sale locally at a very reasonable 10 euro.

The Active Retirement Group have kindly indicated that they will donate the proceeds to the CT Scanner Appeal.

Public Head Shave

The volunteers for the head shave and the Turkish barbers who provided the styling on the night. The event raised 28,000 Euro

A great time was had by all and dancing continued late into the night.

We hope to publish some pictures in the near future and the amount of money that the event raised.
 
The fund now stands at approx 24.4% percent of target.
